Celebrating Our Heritage

March 2024
Exhibition near 2degrees and Mobile King at Invercargill Central

To make way for our vibrant new inner city, Ceres NZ completed the demolition of 43 buildings across a 19,400m² site between January and September 2020.

Photographers David Watson and Chris Duggan took the initiative to document the changing city block, seeing the historical importance of this significant change to our city, preserving this moment-in-time.

The Invercargill Central projects team formally invited David and Chris to continue their work, which was first presented in a photography exhibition in the Bank of New South Wales building in November 2020.

David and Chris were always on-site when “something big” happened, their images capturing the fragility of the buildings and the care that was taken to retain Invercargill’s history.

On display in honour of Southland Heritage Month.
